Mission Opportunities:
At St. Andrew's Church our primary focus is to be Jesus to the world reaching out to the least, last, lost, and especially children and those living in poverty. You are invited and needed to come and make a difference in the world! For more information about any of these mission opportunities, email or Kevin Ward, Family Ministries Director, at kjw2517@gmail.com. Room in The Inn: From December through March St. Andrew's Church works through the Charlotte Urban Ministries Center and provides meals, housing and fellowship on Thursday Nights for men who do not have a home. You can help by bringing food, cleaning, spending the night, driving our guests to or from the Urban Ministries Center, sharing a devotion or just visiting with the men. Montclaire Elementary School: Right across the street from St. Andrew's Church is a wonderful elementary school! You can be a beacon of hope to a child by being a lunch buddy, reading buddy, tutor, or a classroom volunteer. Montclaire welcomes help in the Media Center (Library), too. Volunteers are also needed to complete projects at home for the teachers (sorting, stapling, typing etc...) or organize special treats, breakfasts or lunches for the staff. It is great fun....and the staff and children will make you feel like a Rock Star! Freedom School at Montclaire: St. Andrew's Church, along with Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian, sponsors this 6 week summer learning program for Montclaire Students. Freedom School is a program through the Children's Defense Fund and helps curb summer learning loss. It is fun for students, staff and church volunteers. You can help by being part of a planning team to plan and fund Freedom School, providing snacks, helping with activities and other essentials during the summer. Christmas Sharing: Making sure children and those with disabilities can celebrate Christmas with a few gifts. This is where individuals and groups sponsor children, families and adults with disabilities. Sometimes this involves shopping for particular items and sometimes it involves purchasing gift cards or food. Meals with Friends: On Wednesdays during the summer months, St. Andrew's becomes a place for the Community to come, cool off, and enjoy a free meal together. Individuals and groups are needed to provide & serve the meal and help with set up/clean up and other activities that make this evening so much fun. Habitat For Humanity: Each year, St. Andrew's UMC partners with Charlotte Church Partners (A collection of churches who come together to partner in mission) to help build a few habitat homes. This is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty while building a new home for some special folks! You can participate as an individual, family, class, or with your place of employment to help build these homes! Adventures in Learning: Each Wednesday morning, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, St. Andrew's UMC Cross-Cultural Ministry hosts a new beginning for preschoolers and parents of their ministry. This program is designed for children from 18 months to 4 years of age and for their parents. Classes/activities for children (crafts, reading Bible stories, drama, music and cross-cultural assimilation) are provided. For parents, they promote English language learning, prenatal classes, marriage counseling, mental health care, and ways to provide nutritional meals are provided. During the events, a healthy breakfast or lunch is provided each Wednesday that we meet. For more information, call Pastor David Ortigoza at 704-553-1327, ext. 107. |
